Chelsea mascot raises fund for Help a London Child

Runners in this Sunday's London Marathon will include 35,000 people ... and one lion!

Chelsea FC's much loved official mascot Stamford the Lion will run the gruelling 26 mile course in aid of Chelsea's national charity partner, Held a London Child.

Stamford set himself a fund-raising target of £10,000, which he has already surpassed before the race begins at 10 am on Sunday April 25.

Help a London Child was founded by Chelsea life president Sir Richard Attenborough and provides support and opportunities to thousands of underprivileged children across London.

Stamford will be wearing a specially made running shirt instead of his normal Chelsea kit, which the first team will sign once he has completed the challenge.

Fans who sponsor the furry lion through his Run Stamford Run JustGiving page will be in with a chance of winning the shirt. The winning name be selected at random from the list of sponsors once the marathon has been completed.

And if you are plannng to go along to cheer on Stamford and the thousands of others pounding London's streets on Sunday, Transport for London has produced a guide to the marathon and the famous landmarks along its route, plus an interactive map of the course and lots of tips and advice on planning your journey to the event.
