Woman Taken to Hospital after Falling Down Down Sinkhole in North End Road

Taken to Charing Cross after falling into four metre deep hole

The woman was pushing a shopping trolley in the busy Fulham street when she disappeared into the hole, which is four metres deep but only one metre wide.

Passers by said they heard a loud scream as she fell and staff and local people rushed to help her.

Amazingly though she appeared to have only minor injuries and was seen recovering with a coffee before being taken to Charing Cross Hospital.

A Met Police spokesman confirmed the incident saying: " Police were called at 8.32am today to North End Road, SW6, to reports of a pavement collapse."

A London Ambulance spokeswoman said: "We were called at 8.53am to North End Road to reports of a woman falling through a hole.

"We sent an ambulance crew to the scene. The patient was shaken but not seriously injured and we took her to Charing Cross hospital."

The service also tweeted @Ldn_Ambulance: " We've cared for a woman who was shaken after falling through a hole in the pavement in #Fuham We've taken her to hospital."

According to North End Road stallholders, a man had already fallen down the hole and twisted his ankle, after which the hole was blocked off with tables and chairs early this morning in an attempt to stop passers-by walking into it.
