Outstanding Grades for Fulham Cross Girls' School

Glowing report from Ofsted

Fulham Cross Girls' School has been judged outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.

The Ofsted inspection, carried out in September this year, gave the school the top Grade One for overall effectiveness, capacity for sustained improvement and outcomes for individuals and groups of pupils.

In a letter to all pupils, Ofsted inspectors also said the headteacher, Bernie Peploe, has a strong and ambitious drive to make it even better.

The report puts Fulham Cross among the best schools in the country, an achievement backed by a huge leap in exam performance. It made the headlines in August when 70.4 per cent of girls got five or more GCSEs at grade A* to C including English and maths, up 22.4 per cent on the previous year.

Ms Peploe said: "I am enormously proud of all our students and staff. This is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the whole school community."

Inspectors were impressed at pupils' motivation to do well and at how much they enjoy school. In one French class they inspected, the children spontaneously applauded one student's answer in class.

They were also glowing in their comments on the innovative and varied curriculum and on the exceptional care and support the girls are given.

Fulham Cross Girls' School has now federated with Henry Compton School and a single governing body for the two schools is now in place.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council says the schools are being brought together under its Schools of Choice programme so that each can benefit from the other's strengths and the two schools can share facilities and staff expertise while maintaining singlesex classes. A mixed sixth form will also be a feature of the new federation.
