Plans for New Sands End Arts and Community Centre to Be Unveiled

Exhibitions will show off designs for redevelopment of Clancarty Lodge in South Park

Designs for a new Sands End Arts and Community Centre in South Park are to be revealed to the public next week.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council says it has worked closely with residents and local stakeholders to draw up designs for the new centre, in Clancarty Lodge in the north west corner of the Parsons Green park.

Now residents are invited to attend two public consultation events at nearby Sulivan Primary School in Peterborough Road.

These events are on Wednesday 13 September, from 4.30pm to 8.30pm and Saturday 16 September, from 10am to 4pm.

Visitors are encouraged to invite their neighbours along, too.

Those unable to make it to either event can comment online  from Monday 18 September.

The original community centre in library in Broughton Road was sold five years ago by H&F Council's previous administration, despite strong protests from local residents.

Last August, the council announced that it intended creating a new centre in the lodge with a contribution of £2 million from Tideway, which is constructing a drive site for the Tideway Tunnel on Carwath Road.

"The closure of the old community centre was a real loss to the area so we’re pleased to be building a new one with residents," says Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration.

"We’ve been working with residents on the designs and I hope everyone will now come and help shape the centre by giving their views.

" We want to provide something that is truly for local people from all backgrounds. To protect it for the future, the new arts and community centre will be run by a community trust of residents."
