Community Centre Campaigners Gather at Fulham Town Hall
Council meeting to be presented by petition signed by 6,900
Campaigners fighting to save Sands End Community Centre will present a petition containing a total of 6,900 signatures at a full council meeting tonight, October 27 at Fulham Town Hall.
The Save Sands End Community Centre Action Group are urging the public to join them at the town hall, either outside from 6.20pm or inside from 7pm.
Members of the group will also be asking the council three questions about the community centre's future.
On the local community site, W14london.ning.com campaigner Ann Rosenberg says: " History will be made as no one can remember a petition of 6,900 signatures having ever been presented to the Council before.
" It takes guts to stand and speak in front of such a formidable group in such a formal setting and those who are speaking (four members of the Save Sands End Community Centre Action Group) would like to be supported by you.
"Please make the effort to come and see history in the making. We'd like to fill the Public Gallery and make our presence felt."
The action group formed after H & F council announced in July it planned to sell off nine "under-used" council buildings, including the community centre and Fulham Town Hall, to help pay off debts. The sell-off also fits in with its plans to centralise library facilities, and close smaller libraries in Baron's Court and Sands End.
The group will be joined in the public gallery by other local campaigners trying to save Barons Court Library and a group of people who are concered about council plans for Shepherd's Bush Market.
