Women cyclist suffers "life changing" injuries

The Borough Commander came to the scene and local roads were closed as the air ambulance landed on Eel Brook Common, close to the scene of the accident at the junction of New Kings Road and Wandsworth Bridge Road.

The accident happened around 5.30pm when the woman, who is reported to be in her 40s and from Chelsea, collided with an HGV vehicle as she was turning left from Wandsworth Bridge Road into New Kings Road.

Firefighters were also called to the scene and spent some time struggling to free her leg, which was trapped under the lorry.

She was taken by air ambulance to St George's Hospital in Tooting. Police describe her injuries as "life changing" and say she has since has surgery on her leg.

Anyone who saw this accident is asked by police to ring 101.
