Police Warn of Rise in Local Burglaries

Entry mostly gained through sash windows or weak front doors

Sergeant Peter Nicholson of Parsons Green and Walham Safer Neighbourhood Team has issued a warning to local people to ensure their homes are safe from burglars.

Peter say: " Over the past two weeks there has been a marked increase in residential burglaries in your area.

" These burglaries have been at various times of the day and entry in the most part has been gained via a Sash Window or weak front doors/locks.

" Please ensure that you have visible sash window bolts fitted (one each side of the window where it would slide up), not just the central one/latch.

" Also it is of vital importance that you dead lock any doors. The Yale type lock is not enough to protect you from a determined intruder. To prove this point there have been some determined but unsuccessful attempts where good sash window bolts have thwarted the offenders."

Peter says that for residents aged 60+ years of age who are struggling to secure their home, there is a free service to assist with this. If you would like to take advantage of this for yourself or a neighbour you can contact Keep safe on 0207 385 9689.

Police also advises people to make sure their valuables are property marked and placed onto the national property register, www.immobilise.com.

Peter adds: " The team have been working hard stop this current increase, with three individuals being arrested this week for possessing believed stolen jewellery. In addition Fulham wide initiatives are also being used to apprehend offenders.

" Pass this message onto any other local residents, and if anyone would like a security visit from the team, please don't hesitate to ask."
