Open Meeting on Crime and Policing to Be Held on Broadway

MP Greg Hands, councillors and police officers meet public following local murders

Chelsea and Fulham MP Greg Hands will join senior police officers and local councillors at an open meeting discussing local crime and policing on Wednesday 27 March from 7.30pm till 9pm at Fulham Broadway Methodist Church.

The meeting is being held amidst public concerns over two recent murders in the local area.

On Thursday 7 March, 17 year-old Ayub Hassan, from Shepherd's Bush was fatally stabbed in Lanfrey Place, outside the Waitrose store in North End Road.

A 15 year-old boy has since been charged with his murder and remanded in custody.

Then in the early hours of Saturday 16 March,  29 year-old Nathaniel Armstrong was stabbed to death in Gowan Avenue off Munster Road.

Nathaniel, who was described by friends as an exceptionally friendly person who was very popular in the area, was the cousin of Alex Beresford, well known to viewers of ITV's Good Morning Britain as the regular weather presenter.

Less than two weeks before Nathaniel was killed, Alex had spoken passionately about knife crime during a TV debate.

Police are appealing for information from those who were in the area at the time of the attack, shortly after midnight and saw anything of note. The team is particularly keen to trace a light skinned black male, approximately 6ft tall who was seen near the scene at the time of the incident. Anyone with information on his identity or whereabouts is urged to contact call the police incident room on 0208 358 0100. To remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Witnesses can also tweet police via @MetCC

In addition to these attacks, there have been reports this week of a knifepoint mugging in Parsons Green and a burglary at the Sweaty Betty on Fulham Road.

The meeting at the Methodist Church, next to Fulham Broadway shopping centre will allow local people to ask questions about crime and policing in our local area. Everyone is welcome to attend.
