Motorists and buses on diversion until Friday evening at
Wandsworth Bridge Road has been closed between the junctions with Bovingdon Road and Ryecroft Street to allow for emergency repairs by Thames Water.
Thames Water originally said the road was scheduled to reopen this evening, Friday 16 November, but the works are now being described as 'ongoing'.
An update from @TfLTrafficNews says: " A217 Wandsworth Bridge Road (Fulham) remains closed both ways btwn Bovingdon Road and Ryecroft Street for ongoing @thameswater repairs to a burst water main. Diverted traffic is currently flowing well but delays may occur later on local diversion/s."
H&F Council says that according to Thames Water, its works in the road have uncovered a major problem which means more works need to be done.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and bus services 28, 295 and N28 are on diversion.
These problems follow reports of flooding following heavy rain last weekend, as shown by this photo taken by @garyfannin, who tweeted: " Wandsworth Bridge Road - SW6. Between no. 84 to 94. Blocked drains both sides. Road completely flooded. Danger of flooding to properties. "
