Fatal Stabbing in Chelsea Leads to  Continuing Traffic Chaos


Fulham Road still slow on Friday due to police closure on Finborough Road

A fatal stabbing in Cathcart Road in Chelsea on Wednesday has led to continuing traffic chaos on Friday, including gridlock on the westbound lane of Fulham Road, as the northbound lane of Finborough Road remains closed due to the police investigation.

The Jambuster website says "Cathcart Road (SW10) (All Directions) at the junction of [A3220] Finborough Road and [A3220] Redcliffe Gardens - Road is closed due to a Police incident. Additionally, [A3220] Finborough Road is also closed northbound at the junction of [A304] Fulham Road with local diversion in place.

"Traffic is slow on approach on Fulham Road in both directions. Gunter Grove travelling northbound is also slow moving. Redcliffe Gardens is slow moving southbound with tailbacks towards Old Brompton Road. Cremorne Road westbound is slow on approach with traffic tailbacks beyond Beaufort Street. North End Road in both direction is slow moving. Kings Road eastbound is slow moving with traffic tailbacks to Harwood Road. Expect delays. "

Area affected by Thursday's road closures

The Met Police say they were called at approximately 10.21pm on Wednesday to reports of a stabbing on Cathcart Road. Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service.

A man, believed to be aged in his 40s, was found with multiple stab wounds and despite the best efforts of the medical teams, he died at the scene shortly after 11pm.

His next of kin have been informed, although formal identification awaits.

Police  say a post-mortem examination will take place in due course, and detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

A crime scene remains in place. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

Slow traffic on Fulham Road

In addition, major gas works by Cadent are now underway further east on Fulham Road, with temporary traffic signals between Old Church Street and Brompton Road, due to Cadent gas works. 

This work is due to last through summer till 26 August, and drivers have been warned to expect delays.
