Fulham Opera Return with Double Bill by Puccini

Fulham Opera are back at St John's Church in North End Road this weekend performing two Puccini operas - one comic and one tragic.

 

 

The operas, Puccini’s Il Tabbarro (The Cloak) and Gianni Schicchi are accompanied by a nine piece orchestra.

The first tells the tale of a couple whose love is torn apart by the death of their first child.

The second follows a money-grabbing family as they concoct schemes to get their hands on their rich relative’s money after he dies.

The performances will be staged in Italian with English surtitles and the actors will be joined by year four pupils from St John’s Primary School in Fulham.

Director Fiona Williams says: " In Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi, Puccini takes the audience to the extremes of the emotional scale with searing music and drama.

" This blend of shows promises a night of intense and exquisite music coupled with heartrending and hilarious verismo storytelling.

" It’s the perfect opportunity for newcomers to come and see what opera is all about as well as presenting aficionados with the chance to hear burgeoning performers explore these two operas in the thrilling and intimate setting of St John’s."

The performance begins at 7.30pm tonight, Friday March 27 and at 7pm on Sunday March 29.
