Archaeology is at the centre of events throughout October

Archaeology is at the centre of events at Fulham Palace in October, with a community dig launching on Monday 9 October and running through till 29 October.

There will also be lots of opportunities to visit the site, talk to the archaeologists and learn about the history of the Palace and its grounds.

On 11, 12, 13, 16- 20 and 26 and 27 October from 2pm - 2.30 pm you can Meet the Archaeologist.

Meet the Archaeologist at Fulham Palace

Visit the Community Archaeology Dig at the main entrance to the Palace and ask an archaeologist any questions you have about the excavation – what we’re working on, how the processes work, the exciting items we’ve uncovered that day and any other burning questions you might have about the fascinating archaeology of Fulham Palace! These sessions are free with no booking required.

On Saturday 14 October, join The Family Archaeology Experience, from 1.30pm till 2.15pm for families with children under eight and 2.30pm till 3.13pm for families with children eight years and over.

On Thursday 19 October and 26 October, from 3pm-3.45pm - Interactive Archaeology for Adults

Ever fancied yourself as a budding archaeologist? In this informal and enjoyable experience, our team of professionals will lead you on a tour around the excavation trenches and guide you through their exciting discoveries, providing the opportunity to handle some real archaeological artefacts.

Free but booking recommended, click here to book. Sturdy footwear and appropriate outdoor clothes recommended. Meet at the main entrance to the Tudor Courtyard.

On Monday 23 October and Tuesday 24 October, from 11am till 11.30am - Ask the Young Archaeologist.

Come visit our Community Archaeology Dig at the main entrance to the Palace and ask members of the Young Archaeologists' Club about their experiences of the dig and about this popular group at Fulham Palace. Free, no booking necessary.

Sunday 8 October, 11am -3pm - Apple Day Celebration

This popular annual festival celebrates our Walled Garden apple orchard, with displays and tastings, live music, bee keeping and wood turning demonstrations, a hotly anticipated baking competition, children’s activities, storytelling, refreshments and more! Free, no booking required.

Wednesday 18 October, 2pm-2.30pm - Postcards in Focus

Join Curator Miranda Poliakoff for a behind the scenes look at our current exhibition. Explore the variety of postcards produced of Fulham Palace, Bishop's Park and the Bishops of London and find out more about how the exhibition was put together. Free, booking recommended. Click here to book.

Monday 23 October, through Fri 27 October, 10am-4pm - Bronze Arts Award in a Week

The Palace's popular Bronze Arts Award course offers an exciting and intensive week of arts-based activities. Young people will develop their creative skills, visit and review an exhibition, develop their confidence and share their artistic talents.

There are also History Tours at 2pm on Sunday 8, 22 and 29 October and a Garden Walk at 2pm on Sunday 15 October. These cost £6 per person, and no booking is necessary.
