What's on in June at Fulham Palace


Fun and learning in the sun for people of all ages

 

The arrival of summer at Fulham Palace means brings events dedicated to gardening, vegetables and flowers, plus a chance to paint on the foreshore, learn about bee-keeping or Tudor history and join in the annual Edwardian Garden Party.

Here's this month's schedule:

Saturday 4 June, 10.30am-12pm - Little Green Fingers Gardening Session

Learn how to plant pot grown crops and flowers, and look after sown vegetables as well as other fun gardening activities.

Saturday 4 June, 1pm-3pm - Introduction to Vegetable Growing

Would you like to grow your own produce? This practical short course will cover everything you need to know from plant bed preparation, seed sowing, thinning out, crop rotation and plant care.

Monday 6 June, 2pm-3pm - Head Gardener’s Surgery

Have a tricky gardening problem you can't fix at home? Sign up for this session where Lucy Hart, Head Gardener will give tailored advice for all of your garden related conundrums.

Monday 6 June, 2pm - Tales of the Tudor Palace

Find out about the Tudor bishops who lived at Fulham Palace and how their careers depended on retaining the favour of the monarch and surviving the religious conflicts of the period.

Saturday 11 June, 10am-4pm - Contemporary Watercolours on the Foreshore

As part of the Hammersmith and Fulham ArtsFest, take advantage of the Palace’s riverside location and join artist Jo Lewis to create contemporary paintings and sculptures using watercolours, ink and found objects inspired by the movement and flow of the river.

Working outdoors in the garden and on the Thames foreshore, this workshop will allow you to interpret London from a different perspective. No previous experience is required and beginners are welcome. All materials are provided.

Sunday 12 June, 11am-12pm  - Bee Keeping at Fulham Palace

Join volunteer beekeepers for a demonstration and talk about the habits of bees, the life of a hive and how to look after a hive of bees. Learn about how Fulham Palace beekeepers manage their hives and keep bees thriving to produce delicious honey and beautiful beeswax.

Monday 13 June- Sunday 19 June 2016, 9.30am-5pm - Discovering the Bishop of London’s Palace at Fulham: Restoration Project Exhibition

This special exhibition is a chance to find out about and share your thoughts on Fulham Palace's major project to restore the Tudor Quadrangle, bring the Great Hall back to life and enhance the botanical garden.

Saturday 18 June, 11am-4pm - Open Garden Squares Weekend

As part of London Open Garden Squares Weekend, Fulham Palace is holding four special garden tours for ticket holders only. Tours take place at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm.

Sunday 19 June, 1pm-4pm - Edwardian Garden Party

The Bishops of London were well known for holding garden parties at Fulham Palace. Help celebrate this tradition and come along for a day of family fun in the garden.

Take a turn on the swing boats, have your face painted, dance along to ragtime music and take part in some garden games and craft activities.

Free, no booking necessary. Children must be accompanied by an adult.


Saturday 25 June, 11.15am-1pm - Young Archaeologists’ Club: Archaeology on the Foreshore – SOLD OUT

Thursday 30 June, 6.30pm-9pm - For the Love of Flowers: A Short Introduction to Flower Arranging

During this relaxed evening workshop with florist Helen Cranmer, learn how to prepare and condition flowers using cuttings from the historic Walled Garden.

Receive tuition on how to combine appropriate colours, textures, scents and shapes, followed by advice on how to prolong the life of your flowers and present them in your home. Students will leave with their very own pretty posy.

Hear the Palace’s history brought to life in these tales of the characters who lived here and stories inspired by our beautiful surroundings.

Sunday 5 June, Thursday 9 Jun, 2pm - Garden Walk

Join this tour of the Fulham Palace garden and discover more about its history and the rare plants grown at the Palace today.

The garden has a long and fascinating history dating back to the Tudor period when Bishop Grindal introduced the tamarisk to England through to Bishop Compton’s famous collection of plants in the early 1700s.

Monday 5, 13, 20, 27 and Tuesday 7, 14, 21, 28 June, 10.30am-11.30am -Palace Explorers

Join the Palace Explorers, weekly parent/carer and toddler sessions for children aged 2-4.
