Education Centre Officially Opens at Fulham Palace
Jessie Mylne Centre celebrates in Ancient Roman style
The Jessie Mylne Education Centre, which is in the palace's Victorian stable block is dedicated to providing an interesting and well-equipped space for the learning activities for school children, families and adults at Fulham Palace, along with an office upstairs for the learning staff.
Jessie Mylne was the last surviving member of the Scott family of Ravenscourt Park. Born in 1854 she died in 1940 and left a bequest to Hammersmith Council. This was eventually used to set up the Museum of Fulham Palace, which opened in 1992 and subsequently for the fit-out of the Education Centre in 2012.
The event also served to thank the outgoing part-time Education Officer, Jenny Kershaw, who has worked at Fulham Palace for 18 years and to introduce Eleanor Sier, who has joined the Palace as the Learning Officer.
In addition, Fulham Palace is this week celebrating its receipt of a commendation in the Sandford Award for Heritage Education 2012 from the Heritage Education Trust.
Fulham Palace Trust, the charity which manages the palace, now welcomes over 100 school classes a year to learn about the fascinating history of the site, including visits from the children at Sir John Lillie School, who are pictured here learning about the Romans.
Other sessions at the centre include learning about toys, creepy crawlies, the Tudors and World War II.
There are also drop-in sessions for young families and soon, sessions for young people and adults. The Jessie Mylne Education Centre houses Fulham Palace’s extensive costume and handling collection and sessions continue to visit the Palace’s museum.

"We are very pleased to be able to officially open the Jessie Mylne Education Centre and at the same time achieve recognition for all our excellent work with schools through a Sandford Award for Heritage Education."
