Busy Start to 2012 at Fulham Palace


Embroidery, opera, book talk and Mini Mozarts

Fulham Palace has a busy programme of events running from January through till spring, from embroidery workshops to opera.

Here's the line-up:

Tuesday January 24 - All Day Embroidery Workshop
Tutor: Tracy A Franklin is a specialist traditional embroiderer, ex Royal School of Needlework

Tracy returns this year to embroider the letters E R in varied gold and silk work to celebrate the Jubilee – learn the principle of embroidering writing.

Wednesday 25 - All Day Embroidery Workshop
Tracy creates a beautifully worked flag using a range of stitches, including some goldwork techniques.

Kits : Kits, where relevant, are included in the fee.
Fees : £50 per day (Associates £40) Lecture only £13 (Associates £10)
Time: 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Lecture only 2pm – 3.15pm
Hours: It is possible to do only one day, or the lecture only. Just ask.

Monday January 30, 2pm - Illustrated Talk
Bringing the early years to life: the research story behind the Bishops Park book
Illustrated talk by Sally Miller: landscape and garden historian and author of the recently published history of Bishops Park
£7 per person, includes tea following talk. (Museum Associates £4).

Museum Drop In Afternoon
Try on period costumes and handle artefacts.
Free, no booking required, all ages welcome.

Tuesday February 14, 10am and 11am
Mini Mozarts
Children’s music workshop for 2 – 5 year olds. Includes singing, percussion instruments and exploring rhythm and sound.
£10 per child, accompanying adult free.

Friday February 24, 7.30pm
Opera at the Palace
Now a firm favourite in Fulham's events calendar, the palace welcomes another four fabulous opera stars. A unique opportunity to experience an evening of entertainment with singers set for stardom – up close in the Great Hall. This evening is highly recommended to all opera fans and has sold out on all previous occasions. Limited seating, early booking will be necessary.
Concert and dinner package - £55 per person. Concert only - £20 per person.
Concert and dinner package includes 3 course dinner, two courses served before the concert from 6pm, with dessert and coffee afterwards.
Concert begins 7.30pm

Thursday and Friday, March 1 and 2, 7pm
Butterfly Hero
Freddie, a Monarch butterfly rarely seen in the UK, arrives in Kew Gardens on the breath of the wind. But nobody, not even he, knows why he is there. What will he do when he discovers that it is only by his death that the other butterflies can escape the danger of the predatory birds?

Butterfly Hero is a new musical written by local writers Linda Walton and Sam Chaplin and performed by St. Paul's CE Primary School.

Suitable for children aged 4 + . Starts at 7pm, tickets priced £10 for adults, children £5.

Garden Walks 
Home to an array of interesting and unusual trees, Fulham Palace Gardens are of significant historical importance.  Learn about the trees and how they came to be part of the palace's collection as well as the proposals for the restoration of the historic kitchen garden.
