The Haven breast cancer charity fills centre with hundreds of balloons

The Haven, which has a centre in Effie Road, just off the Broadway, is raising awareness of their services by decorating Fulham Broadway Shopping Centre with hundreds of pink balloons and setting up two information stands.

The Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham, Cllr Mercy Umeh, will open the day's events and The Haven will offer information about the charity’s programme of support and therapies for those affected by breast cancer as well as selling tickets for its first Fulham BCAM Raffle.

There are over 30 great prizes to be won, all donated by local businesses. They include love2shop vouchers from Fulham Broadway, lunch at Manuka Kitchen, Fit8 coaching sessions and dinner at The Malt House.

Other businesses are actively adopting the pink theme and supporting The Haven in a variety of ways.

Bunting and Pops and Antonia’s Bakery will be providing sweet treats in the shopping centre at The Haven stands throughout the day. Funky Juice bar is selling a pink juice with 15% being donated to The Haven and The Lekkerbek on Effie Road is also selling a pink Haven drink as well as selling raffle tickets.

The Haven provides free information, emotional and physical support for anyone at any stage of the breast cancer journey. The Haven provides, completely free of charge, a wide range of therapies which help people deal with the physical and emotional side effects of breast cancer. Specialist nurses and experts in nutrition, exercise and emotional support provide tailor-made programmes for each Visitor. No referral is necessary. The Haven programme provides a unique model of care that is fully integrated with hospital medical treatment. It is a global leader in its field and cancer specialists from all over the world visit Havens and learn from them. Help is also available through the website – www.thehaven.org.uk ; an outreach programme, including many of the support centres’ elements, is available to anyone who can’t get to one of the Havens. The Haven does not receive any government funding so is entirely dependent on charitable donations and fundraising events to raise funds. It costs around £1000 to provide the Haven programme for each Visitor and the care and support make a huge difference to their lives at a difficult time. The day's celebration, which has become an annual event in Fulham, sees volunteers from local breast cancer support centre The Haven decorating the shopping centre and surrounding streets with hundreds of pink balloons as well as Fulham Broadway's first Breast Cancer Awareness Bra Chain. There will also be an information stand for passers by to ask questions and learn more about what The Haven offers. The fun begins at 10am and runs through till 5pm. Organisers hope the event will be as successful as last year's which saw the centre decorated with 1,500 balloons and which raised hundreds for the Haven. The Haven, in nearby Effie Road offers free of charge, a wide range of therapies which help people to deal with the physical and emotional side effects of breast cancer.
