Builder Killed in Ellerby Road Tragedy

37 year-old man crushed in basement collapse

The 37 year-old builder, who has not yet been named, was working for a company called Siday Construction on excavating the basement of the house when the floor collapsed.

He was trapped in the rubble and the Metropolitan Police say that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have also confirmed that the Health and Safety Executive are involved in investigating his death.

Ellerby Road is one of the "alphabet" streets going west from Fulham Place Road north of Bishop's Park, where many family houses have had their basements opened up to provide extra space.

Siday Construction mention the Ellerby Road excavation among current projects on their website. The job is described as installing a basement under an existing house, to include drainage. The work is due to last 20 weeks and cost £235,000.
