Fulham Foodbank Appeals for Help with Urgent Move to New Office

Charity turns to Spacehive to fund conversion of attic at St Matthew's

The team at Fulham's Foodbank say they urgently need to move to a new office at St Matthew's Church in Wandsworth Bridge Road - and have launched a fundraising campaign on Spacehive to make the move possible.

The Foodbank team, who have already moved their cafe and distribution centre from Christchurch in Studdridge Street to St Matthew's, say: " We need to move our office urgently. We've been offered an attic space in St Matthew's Church, Wandsworth Bridge Road, so that we can co-locate our office with our Fulham Foodbank Centre .

" This office will give us room to run our projects helping local people in crisis. We will need to update electrics and add flooring, windows, a staircase, IT and wifi and more.

"A new office will allow this award winning charity the opportunity to continue to provide emergency food to local people in crisis (over 10,000 people in 2017/18), as well as manage our cooking and budgeting courses, holiday clubs, and advice projects - all in an effort to: raise awareness of hidden hunger; provide solutions to hunger; and campaign to change policies that contribute to hunger and poverty."

What the funds will provide:

install set of bespoke stairs to access office
install electrics for office equipment including phones/wifi
flooring and carpet tiles
4 windows (currently an attic)
Plasterboard, skim and paint office

The total cost of the move will be £43,145 and a fundraising page will be open on Spacehive

until 25 November.

In the meantime, the team say: " After 8+ very happy years at Christchurch Fulham, we have now moved our Fulham ‘Cafe’/Food Distribution Centre to a lighter, brighter and, more importantly, bigger space.

"We are now open at St Matthew's Church, on the corner of Wandsworth Bridge Road and Rosebury Rd (SW6 2TX) – so not too far from our original site – every Tuesday morning and Friday. Our opening times have not changed.

"Ultimately, the office will move here too, but for the time being, the office will remain on Studdridge Street where cakes can still be dropped off and deliveries made (though we’d REALLY appreciate it if you could ring before dropping food off – 020 7731 3693). However, out-of-hours appointments will no longer be available from the office."

The Foodbank is open in Fulham every Tuesday from 10.30am to 1pm with homemade baked goods being served and Friday from 2pm to 4.30pm when homemade soup and/or sandwiches may be served alongside baked goods. Professional advice is also available to foodbank clients who are residents of LBHF.

The team add: " We are incredibly grateful to William Rodgers (Vicar) and everyone at St Matthew’s for welcoming with such opening arms.

"We remain grateful to Stuart Lees, Vicar of Christchurch, who made it possible all those years ago to get the foodbank started, and to all the staff who have been such a support to us."

Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbank also has centres at St Simon's Church in Rockley Road, W14 and at 75 Bloemfontein Road in W12 and together they feed around 200 local people in need every week.
