Orchestra celebrates 25th anniversary and supports Cure Parkinson's

South London Jazz Orchestra is celebrating its 25th anniversary and raising funds for the charity Cure Parkinson’s with a special concert at Sands End Arts and Community Centre, in Fulham’s Peterborough Road.
The concert, on Saturday 5 April promises two hours of glorious big band jazz and swing, with music from legends including Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Sammy Nestico and Freddie Hubbard.
The orchestra says, “ We work hard to keep our set list fresh and to reflect the often hidden diversity of swing and jazz composition and arranging. So listen out for the occasional diversion further afield, including Latin and Funk, and maybe even some more surprising choices…
“South London Jazz Orchestra (SLJO) is a diverse group of talented musicians – a big band with the emphasis on big! Our aim is to share our love of jazz around London and beyond, help raise money for charity, and have as much fun as possible while doing so.
“In tribute to and loving memory of SLJO’s co-founder, Bob Bridges, all profits from the gig will be donated to Cure Parkinson’s in support of their vital work. Cure Parkinson’s is working with urgency to find new treatments to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s.”
Tickets for the concert, starting at 7.30pm and running till 9.30pm cost £12.50 and can be purchased here.
Sands End Arts and Community Centre is also hosting Autism Acceptance, an exhibition to mark World Autism Awareness Day and Autism Acceptance month with works by Fulham artist Orlando Richardson.
Orlando is a neurodivergent artist and illustrator working across different media: paint, ink, printmaking, digital, often mixing them. His influences include Pop Art, Italian Futurists and the Ligne Claire style.
He says he wants to change how people think about and talk about autism; uncovering neurodivergent history and achievements; how autistics see themselves and how others see them.
The exhibition of his works will be on display daily from April 3, with people invited to drop in and view it between 8.30am and 5pm.
It will open with a Private View on 2 April from 6.30pm and 8.30pm, and anyone who wishes to attend can book a free place here.
