Enjoy Mendelssohn and more performed by the Atelier Quartet on Friday
Music by the Bridge, a popular series of free monthly Friday evening concerts featuring talented young and often local musicians, continues this spring.
This month's concert, on Friday 8 March features the Atelier Quartet - Sophie WIlliams - Violin, Richard Montgomery - Violin, Miguel Sobrinho - Viola and Findlay Spence - Cello, performing Mendelssohn and more.
Since 2017 the Atelier Quartet have been swiftly establishing themselves as an exciting new voice in the UK chamber music scene. As students in London they unite two of the world’s most prestigious music conservatoires, the Royal College and the Royal Academy of Music, and benefit from the support of internationally renowned professors. The quartet’s intensive study programme includes regular coaching from members of the Doric Quartet, and from Richard Ireland, Artistic Director of Chamber Studio.
The ‘atelier’ (an artist’s workroom) is a notion central to the quartet’s ethos. They rehearse in a luthier studio in Hampstead, surrounded by instruments in various stages of completion; while performance is at the heart of everything they do, artistic emphasis is as much on the process as it is on the product. As such, during the 2018/19 season they are involved in a diverse range of outreach projects in which they take roles as both performers and educators. A tour of Scotland in June sees them bringing some of the finest quartet repertoire to communities who rarely experience live chamber music.
