The store, on the site formerly used by restaurant The Blue Elephant, was officially opened on Thursday April 10 with a bread breaking ceremony which Whole Foods say is held at every new store, performed at 10am with the help of H & F Mayor and local resident Frances Stainton and children from from Albert and Friends Instant Circus.
Albert and Friends is also one of four charities to benefit from the store's pledge to give away 5% of the first day's proceeds. The other three, all chosen by the Mayor are the local fund-raising charity The Daisy Trust, The Opportunity Fund in Fulham, which provides grants for community projects and Walking with the Wounded.
Whole Foods Market says the store, the ninth to open in London, is intended as a "one stop shop for all your everyday needs" and adds that it take pride in sourcing UK products included 70 suppliers of food, drink and beauty products based within the M25.
Among those, seven companies are from our local area – Firefly health drinks, the Cool Chile Company, The Oil Merchant, The Fresh Pasta Company and the Mirabilia Olive Leaf Tea Company, plus in the Spirits section Hammersmith based Sipsmith feature and in Health & Beauty, natural supplement maker, Organic Burst.
The store also has a community room which is avaialable for local groups and charities to use as a free meeting place. Jade Hoai, the Store Team Leader says: " Putting our local shoppers at the heart of what we do is what sets Whole Foods Market apart. From our opening day, our commitment to working with local causes which can most benefit from our resources is something we are most proud of.
"We want to encourage people to come here to shop, meet, talk and learn. Our new Community Room will encourage all of that and more."
