Vets warn owners after outbreak of killer gastroenteritis
Local vets Goddard and Molly and Max are warning Fulham dog owners to avoid walking in Hurlingham Park, after a severe outbreak of haemorrhagic gastroenteritis which has led to the death of one pet and made some others seriously ill.
Parsons Green practice Molly and Max have placed this warning on their Facebook page. " Fulham dog owners: we are aware of an outbreak of severe gastroenteritis in dogs walked in Hurlingham Park. It is possibly related to eating of grass clippings and does not appear to be contagious.
" We would recommend clients avoid this park with their dogs at the moment and call us immediately if your dog starts vomiting, has diarrhoea or is otherwise unwell. We also
recommend keeping any dogs prone to scavenging on the lead or muzzled for their own protection."
King Road practice Goddard are offering a similar warning, saying it may be safer to avoid Hurlingham Park while the outbreak is being investigated and warning owners to call their vet if the dog shows any signs of vomiting or diarrhoea.
A large part of Hurlingham Park was fenced off during the summer to allow for the grass to recover following the annual Polo in the Park tournament which took place there in the first weekend of June.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council's parks team says all its fertilisers are animal friendly, but part of the park has now been disinfected and soil samples have been removed for investigation.
