Exploding Manhole Cover Leads to Closure of Fulham Road

Area sealed off while police investigate cause of mystery bang on Broadway

The area remained closed off for two hours while police and London Fire Brigade investigated the incident, leading to traffic delays and tailbacks in surrounding streets and buses being diverted.

At lunchtime, the road was reopened with police and fire service satisfied that the source was an exploding manhole cover.

PC Martin Price reported: "Police were called shortly after 11am this morning to reports of a small explosion on Fulham Broadway.

" Police and Fire have attended the scene where witnesses described a manhole cover exploding. This was confirmed as an electrical explosion. A number of road closures were put in place while an assessment was conducted.
