Fulham Road Closed until "Sometime Next Week"

Work goes on attempting to repair burst pipe

A key section of Fulham Road is set to be closed until well into next week, according to workmen who are attempting to repair a large broken pipe at the junction of Gunter Grove / A3220 and Finborough Road / A3220 and Fulham Road / A308.

The westbound carriage of the road has now been closed since last Sunday between Gunter Grove and Fulham Broadway, causing widespread chaos for travellers.

Westbound traffic is being diverted via Edith Grove and Cremorne Road, with two way temporary signals in action. Buses on routes 14, 414 and 211 are also diverted.

Northbound tailbacks on Gunter Grove are reaching Royal Hospital Road. Eastbound Fulham Road is slow moving on approach, and westbound diverted traffic is slow moving on Edith Grove.

Traffic is also slow moving on alternate routes, including Kings Road and the westbound lane on Chelsea Embankment, and on northbound Chelsea Bridge, Albert Bridge and Battersea Bridge. There are also further delays on A308 Fulham Road due to another set of roadworks near Park Walk.

Witnesses report seeing large amounts of steam coming from the road on Saturday, before Thames Water arrived on the scene. Workmen on the scene say the continuing problem is caused by very a deep pipe, which has broken simply because it is old.
