A* and A grades galore at Lady Margaret and London Oratory Schools
At Lady Margaret in Parsons Green, 87% of the school’s A-level grades were A*-C, with 69% A*-B and 43% either A or A* – a substantial rise from last year’s 36%.
"Nineteen girls attained at least three A or A* grades, which is a fantastic achievement," said Ms Stevenson.
"Congratulations to all our Year 13 students who worked incredibly hard, many overcoming significant challenges outside their academic studies.
"These results are testament to their commitment, and to the dedication of staff in preparing them for their exams."
At London Oratory in Seagrave Road, 78% of students attained A-level grades of A*-B and over 40% attained at least two of their three A-levels at Grade A or above.
One in four pupils attained at least AAA or above, whilst one in three gained at least AAB or more.
New headmaster Daniel Wright, who began working at the school in January was delighted with his sixth-formers’ performances.
"There are some cracking results, and great stories of straight As, which is impressive on top of all the exam changes this year, and against a landscape of flux," he said.
Among the Oratory's success stories were Beltran Field, pictured above, who achieved an A* in French, and As in maths, biology and history and is now off to Edinburgh University. Gwendy Jones, 18, who opted for the sixth form at London Oratory two years ago, having done GCSEs at Sacred Heart has gained a place at Pembroke College, Cambridge studing history or art after gaining A*s English, art and French, and will study history of art.
Oscar Hale is looking forward to studying economics and finance at Bristol University after gaining A*s in art and economics, and A in maths and Eddie Holmes-Milner will study English at Oxford with three straight A* grades in English, history and government & politics under his belt.
At Lady Margaret School, Isra Shaker, who is 18 and was born on the first day of the new millennium, achieved three A* grades and has opted to study history at the London School of Economics, after doing a summer history course at LSE to confirm her choice.
Hannah Griffin, 18 achieved an A* in art, A* in history and A in chemistry – results which will propel her to medical school in Leeds and Dasha Isaeva, gained A grades in economics, psychology and history and is now going to King’s College to study psychology.
Across the borough, results have improved with 28% of grades at A* or A, compared to 27% p last year and a national average this year of 26%.
The overall pass rate in Hammersmith & Fulham schools has also climbed, from 95% last year, to 97% in 2018.
"Congratulations to everyone – students and teachers – who I know have really worked hard over the past couple of years to achieve these impressive results," said Cllr Larry Culhane, H&F Cabinet Member for Children and Education.
"We’re so lucky to have such amazing schools in our borough which do so much to support children and families. They don’t just give students a great academic education but inspire young people in so many other ways to set them up for fantastic futures."
