Dramatic rise in top GCSE passes across Fulham
The number of pupils in Hammersmith & Fulham getting A* to C grades at GCSE has risen dramatically since last year.
Over 65 per cent of students achieved five or more A* to C grades in subjects including Maths and English – an increase of 10 per cent exactly, up from 55.6 per cent in 2008. The figure is also well above last year’s national average, which stood at 47.6 per cent. Overall, the figures for pupils achieving A* to C grades was 83 per cent, again up 10 per cent from last year.
The top performing school in the borough was London Oratory, on Seagrave Road, West Brompton, where 94.5 per cent of pupils took home five or more GCSEs at A* to C, including English and Maths. The pass rate rocketed from last year, when the school achieved 82 per cent.
Director of studies, Michael Sharman, was thrilled with the results. He said: “Congratulations to all of the boys on these excellent results. Through their hard work and the support of all our staff, we have achieved our best results in recent years.”
Fulham Cross Girls’ School were one of the biggest improvers this year with 70.4 per cent of pupils achieving five or more A*-C grades including English and Maths – up an amazing 22.4 per cent on last year.
Councillor Nicholas Botterill, deputy leader of H&F Council, said: “The amazing leap in grades has brought the best results we have ever seen in the borough. Everyone involved in this fantastic achievement – teachers, pupils, parents – should be very proud of themselves.
“Our schools have made huge progress over the past few years and they continue to impress. I wish all our students the very best of luck for the future.”
