Businesses can get exemption for visitors from restrictions

Businesses have been complaining that restrictions have hit takings

A scheme has been launched by Hammersmith & Fulham Council through which businesses in South Fulham can give all-day access through the Clean Air Neighbourhood (CAN) cameras.

Any visitor to selected shops, cafés and restaurants in the restricted area needs to give their registration details to the business who will then enter it into the system which is provided by RingGo.

As long as the information has been added before midnight, no fines will be issued even if a vehicle has passed a camera and no charge will be payable. Exemptions can also be made for deliveries and staff driving to work.

All Hammersmith and Fulham based businesses can apply for the new business visitor access permit and the council is providing free tablets to businesses to enable customers, staff and delivery people to input registrations themselves.

The council has introduced the exemptions as part of an effort to reduce the impact the measures have had on businesses within the CAN zone. Many business owners have complained that they have seen a significant fall in takings due to customers being unable to drive to the area.

In addition, new shopper parking bays have been added in the area at Parsons Green Lane and off Wandsworth Bridge Road and New Kings Road. A designated clean air neighbourhood business support officer has also been appointed.
