Residents harrassed by stone throwing youths
A dispersal zone has been introduced around Seagrave Road following complaints from harassed residents.
The zone allows police officers and Police Community Support Officers to move on groups of two or more people if they are causing or are likely to cause intimidation, harassment, alarm or distress.
Residents, including elderly people, living around the bottom of Seagrave Road close to London Oratory School have been intimidated for months by teenagers hurling stones at each other, climbing over cars, ringing doorbells and banging on their doors.
In one incident a fireman, who was responding to a hoax call, was threatened with a toy firearm.
The Seagrave Road dispersal zone is one of two currently active in the borough, the second being around Hammersmith bus garage.
Dispersal Orders can be granted under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003. Anyone found guilty of breaching the dispersal zone’s conditions faces three months in prison or a £2,500 fine. Youths under 16 years and not under the effective control of an adult can also be taken home to their parents.
The zone will be enforced for at least three months and covers Seagrave Road, Farm Lane, Tamworth Street, Ongar Road, Halford Road, Merrington Road, Hildyard Road, Micklethwaite Road, Viking Court and all associated alleyways.
