Second body to be recovered from Thames this week

A man's body has been discovered partially submerged in mud on the banks of the Thames in Fulham.

The body, which is thought to have entered the water further downstream, was recovered by the Chiswick lifeboat shortly after 7pm on Monday August 29 close to the jetty being used by Barratt as the marketing suite for its Fulham Riverside development on Townmead Road close to Wandsworth Bridge Road.

A police spokeswoman said: " Police were called to Wandsworth Bridge at approximately 6.52pm on Monday August 29 to reports of body on the river bank.

"The body of a man was recovered.

" Enquiries are underway to establish the man's identity. At this early stage the death is not thought to be suspicious."

The crew from RNLI Chiswick, working alongside the Met Police, took the body to Putney Pier.

The West London Coroner has been informed but an inquest is yet to open.

This is the second tragic discovery to be made this week.  On Sunday, August 28, a body was recovered from the Thames, close to Barnes Bridge. It is believed to be that of a Fulham man who had been reported as missing.
