Statue of Jacko is Handed Backo

Pop star tribute removed and given back to Mohamed Al Fayed

Fulham FC have followed through on their promise to hand back the statue of Michael Jackson to former chairman Mohamed Al Fayed by unceremoniously removing it from its riverside stand on Wednesday, September 25.

Michael Jackson statue is removed from Fulham FC ground

New Fulham Chairman Shahid Khan says: "Our supporters' views on the statue have been made clear.

" I respect Mr Al Fayed and know he had good intentions in paying an individual tribute. However, the removal of the statue is the right thing for Fulham Football Club."

The statue was erected in 2011 by Al Fayed who claimed that Michael Jackson was a dedicated Fulham fan. He did indeed attend one game back in the late nineties but was not seen at Craven Cottage again prior to his death. You can read fans' memories of his visit here.

Fulham FC was sold to new owner Shahid Khan for £150m earlier this year and there has been speculation ever since about the future of the somewhat unusual Fulham landmark until Mr Khan confirmed last Friday, September 20 that it would be removed.
