The Haven Extends Opening Hours

Fulham based breast cancer charity now easier to access

The charity, housed in a converted Welsh Presbyterian church in Effie Road, just off Fulham Broadway is the the only national breast cancer charity of its kind. It currently operates its service of emotional and physical support to people affected by breast cancer from 9.30 am – 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

From 5 February, the service will be available until 8 pm for patients who find it difficult to visit The Haven during working hours. The trial will run until July and if the service proves popular, The Haven will look to roll out evening opening hours across all its centres.

The new Wednesday evening opening service, meanwhile will include the following therapies and activities:

Individual therapies: nurse consultations, counselling, acupuncture, aromatherapy massage, reflexology;

Financial advice offered monthly;

Weekly exercise class;

Young women’s support group offered monthly.

With centres in Leeds and Hereford as well as London, The Haven is the UK’s only charity offering completely free of charge, bespoke one-to-one support to improve the quality of life of anyone affected by breast cancer.

Specialist nurses and experts in nutrition, exercise, complementary therapies and emotional support provide tailor-made programmes of care for each Visitor to The Haven. It costs around £1,000 to deliver the charity’s programme to each Visitor.

The pilot has been funded by the Will Charitable Trust and the Allergan International Foundation.
