Transport for London has confirmed that work to replace the glass canopy roof at Fulham Broadway Tube station has been delayed, with the start date now set for 11 January.

The refurbishment, described by TfL as “complex and delicate,” was originally expected to begin this month. Letters have been sent to local residents and businesses explaining the revised timetable.

The glazing replacement will take around 11 months, with completion scheduled for mid-November 2026. Preparatory work will begin in January, followed by the installation of new glazed panels next summer.

Despite the scale of the project, the station will remain open throughout. TfL has apologised in advance for any disruption, noting that some of the work will need to be carried out at night.

The delay means Chelsea supporters attending home matches on 13, 27 and 30 December will not face scaffolding or barriers at the station exit. Fulham Broadway is a key arrival point for fans travelling on the District line to Stamford Bridge.

Businesses and residents along Fulham Broadway have been notified of the revised schedule. While most welcome the assurance that the station will remain open, concerns remain about noise during overnight works.

TfL says the refurbishment is essential to maintain the safety and appearance of the station, which serves thousands of passengers daily.
