Local musical theatre group return to Oratory School

Local musical theatre group Cygnet Players are back at the London Oratory School in Seagrave Road with their production of the classic musical Guys and Dolls.

Guys and Dolls is a musical fable of Broadway based on a story and characters of Damon Runyon, music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.

With its fabulous score, witty lyrics and larger than life cast of gangsters, hustlers and floozies (and a handful of missionaries!), this show has rightfully won the hearts of theatregoers for the last sixty years, with well-known songs, such as Luck Be A Lady, If I Were A Bell and the showstopper, Sit Down, You’re Rocking The Boat.

In this production the director is Jonny Clines, musical director is Steven Geraghty and choreographer is Kim Findlay.

The show is running at the Oratory's John McIntosh Arts Centre from Wednesday January 18 through till Sunday 21 at 7.45pm nightly, with a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm and tickets are selling out fast. They cost £16 (£13 concessions) and can be bought from the Cygnet Players box office on 07941 448 689 or online.

Cygnet Players was established as an amateur musical theatre group in 1997. The company is run by a committee of 12 members, who donate their time to ensure both the artistic success and smooth running of the company.

The Players are keen to invite local people to join the company, either as a performer, musician or working behind the scenes, saying:" As a society, we put on two musicals and one play each year. We’re a really mixed group of people, but we have a really open and friendly approach, always welcoming new members, and we have a really strong social aspect to the group; we have no upper age limit, but need to restrict members to 16 years or over.

"We rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays (7.30pm), and some Sundays closer to the time of a show, at St Barnabas Church Hall in Southfields."
