Fulham to Lose Both Our Local DIY Stores

Wandsworth B&Q to close next week followed by Homebase next summer

Fulham is to lose both our local DIY stores - B&Q and Homebase, just across the river in Wandsworth - by next summer.

B&Q will be the first to go, with confirmation that the store, on Smugglers Way will shut its doors next Saturday, 12 October.

And developer Legal and General, who May this year it had exchanged contracts on both adjacent sites, has told the Wandsworth Society that Homebase will also close by June next year.

The two sites will house a massive six acre development by Legal and General, projected to cost half a billion pounds, which could eventually include up to 1,000 new flats, a percentage of which will be available to rent.

The development, pictured above, will include 16 residential blocks, including towers 15 storeys high.

A spokesperson for B&Q, said: "B&Q is committed to our customers in the Wandsworth area, we’re very sorry to be closing the Wandsworth store on Saturday, October 12 and we send our sincere apologies to Wandsworth customers."

The nearest B&Q stores will be in New Malden and Acton, while the closest Homebase stores will be in Brentford and Richmond.
