Exclusive: 2000 New Riverside Homes for Fulham

Plans include new dockside area, river walk, cafes and restaurants

Around 2,000 new homes are coming soon to Fulham's riverside, if the council agrees to developers' plans.

St George, the company behind Imperial Wharf, is about to apply for permission to build 1,300 more homes at its inland site, which has had the working title Chelsea Creek.

The 10 acre site sits between Imperial Road and the railway line, close to the new Imperial Wharf rail station. Part of the site is taken up by Chelsea Creek, a tributary of the Thames which is also the last remaining part of the Kensington Canal.

St George's plan is to extend and develop the creek into a new dockside area which will retain the original granite edged dock wall.

It is hoped the dock will be used by barges and canoes, and as well as warehouse style apartments,
St George plans to add waterside cafes and restaurants for the public. There are also plans for a small park on the east side of the development, which will provide a green corridor leading towards Imperial Wharf station and on to Chelsea Harbour pier.

St George is currently selling the last few remaining properties in the the riverside part of Imperial Wharf, which range from a two bedroom apartment on the eighth floor of the last phase Octavia House, priced £899.950 to a three bedroom duplex penthouse in the Imperial Apartments priced £4,950.000.

Sainsbury's meanwhile is pressing on with its plans to develop Fulham Wharf, the derelict site to the west of its riverside store and car park. The company has just appointed Helical Bar as development manager and Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands as architect on the scheme, which aims to build a new superstore and up to 700 new homes. These homes will be built above the store and on the site of the existing Sainsbury's, which will be demolished.

The new development will also extend and improve the river walkway and provide more cafes and restaurants built around a public space.

A public consultation on the plans is about to begin, and Sainsbury's says it hopes to apply for planning permission early in 2010.
