A 30-year-old woman from Fulham has appeared in court accused of having sex with an inmate while working as a guard at Wandsworth Prison.

Linda De Sousa Abreu was charged at with misconduct in public office at Uxbridge Magistrate Court on Monday 1 July after a video emerged showing the alleged offence was widely shared on social media.

She was arrested at Heathrow Airport about to board a flight to Madrid although it is not believed that she was seeking to flee justice as she had informed her employers about he travel plans.

The footage first emerged on Friday 28 June and officers investigating arrested Ms De Sousa Abreu later that day.

The charge states that she “wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust in the office holder by engaging in a sexual act with a prisoner in a prison cell”.

A Prison Service spokesman said, “Staff corruption is not tolerated and the former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to the police.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate.”

Ms De Sousa Abreu, who holds a Portuguese passport, was granted conditional bail which requires to remain at home and wear a tag, and will appear at Isleworth Crown Court on 29 July.
