The man accused of strangling and beating his roommate to death in a flat off the Fulham Road earlier this year has denied the charge against him.

46-year-old Mohammed Assri appeared by video link at the Old Bailey this Tuesday (12 May) accused of killing James Dowdell in St Mark’s Grove SW10.

Paramedics had found Mr Dowdell unresponsive at the flat at around 6.50pm on Monday, 17 February. He had suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination later revealed the cause of death to be strangulation and blunt force trauma.

After the plea the judge remanded Mr Assri in custody and he was returned to Wandsworth prison where he was already being held.
