Omar Draz, a violent burglar from Wandon Road in Fulham has been jailed.
Draz attacked two residents of a flat in Ashburnham Road in Chelsea after they caught him ransacking their home.
Draz, 29 was sentenced on March 4 to three years and eight months' imprisonment at Isleworth Crown Court, having previously pleaded guilty to burglary with violence.
The homeowners, a man and woman aged 32 and 31, had returned to their flat in SW10 after a day out around 7pm on Saturday, November 14.
As they walked through the door they saw all the lights were on and the place in disarray.
Suddenly a man walked out of their bedroom and lunged aggressively towards the woman.
He grabbed her shoulders and pushed her against a wall.
The woman's boyfriend intervened and wrestled with the suspect. They fell into another bedroom with the suspect trying to punch and kick him.
The woman tried to help and the suspect grabbed her by the hood of her jacket, leaving her struggling to breath.
The suspect eventually stopped when the victims said they would let him go.
The woman forced him to drop two handbags he was holding. When he refused to empty a backpack he was carrying, the woman grabbed it and tipped it onto the floor.
The suspect then made off through badly damaged patio doors he had smashed to gain entry.
Police were called and the male victim attended hospital for treatment to a cut on his head.
Amongst the items from the backpack was a form with Draz's name on. He was traced and arrested the following day.
Detective Constable Richard Roberts, from Notting Hill CID, says: "This was a terrifying incident for the homeowners, to return after a day out not only to find an intruder in their flat but an intruder who then attacked them.
"The victims acted with astonishing bravery to fight him off and force him to leave behind incriminating evidence which led to his arrest and ultimately his imprisonment."
