Vaccination rates for the elderly in the SW6 area are well below the national average according to the latest official figures.

Up to 28 February less than two thirds of over 65s had received the vaccine in some neighbourhoods in Fulham.

The North End Road area has the lowest take up with just 63.5% of over 65s receiving the vaccine with Sands End & Chelsea Harbour only just ahead at 65.7%

The highest take up is in the Fulham Palace and Hurlingham Park area.

Even the localities with the highest rates of vaccination are well below the national average with NHS England figures showing that 93.6% of over-65s across the country had received their first dose.

London in general has had much lower levels of vaccination than the national average

Uptake figures are based on the latest population estimates by Public Health England's National Immunisation Management Service (NIMS).

Officially the vaccine roll-out has been widened to the over-60s this week and aged 56 and over are being invited to book an appointment to get the jab.

Hammersmith & Fulham residents aged 56 or over, or ‘clinically extremely vulnerable’, can now book a Covid vaccination appointment without needing an invitation.

Eligible frontline health workers and social care workers are also able to book a test.

All you need to do is visit the NHS Covid vaccination website or call 119, free of charge. You can book your appointment to receive the jab at a vaccination centre or a community pharmacy. The Covid vaccination sites in H&F – in White City, Hammersmith Grove and Parsons Green – are run by NHS professionals and have extra measures in place to keep you safe during your visit.

Free transport is being offered to your Covid-19 vaccination appointment. If you’re over 50 and live in H&F, Age UK is organising free minicab rides to and from the vaccination to make it even easier to get your jab. The service runs until the end of March. Call Amy Shallon on 07947 188 221 or email ashallon@aukc.org.uk.

If you would prefer to receive the vaccine at a GP surgery, you will need to wait to be contacted.

As well as those meeting the age requirement you are also invited to book an appointment for the vaccine if you are:

  • at high risk from coronavirus (clinically extremely vulnerable)
  • an eligible frontline health or social care worker
  • you have a condition that puts you at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
  • you have a learning disability
  • a main carer for someone at high risk from coronavirus

You need to be registered with a GP in England to make a booking. GPs have been told to prepare to receive twice as many doses in March.
