25 New Parking Spaces Created on Fulham Road

Shoppers will pay just 20p for half hour visit

There is good news for Fulham Road's shoppers and traders this week with the announcement from Hammersmith and Fulham Council that it is creating 25 cut price parking spaces.

Shoppers in two areas of Fulham Road, by Parsons Green Lane and Fulham Library and at the western end by Fulham Palace Road, will pay just 20p to park for half an hour from December 14.

The councils says this "stop and shop" arrangement comes after discussing ways to improve trade with local residents and businesses.

The parking price means a 70p saving on the current arrangement that sees motorists paying 90p to park in a residential side street for half an hour.

Councillor Nick Botterill, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, says: "We have listened to the people who live and work around Fulham Road and we hope that by installing new bays and slashing the cost of short stay parking we will make it easier for residents and visitors to shop in the area.

"Our small shops and businesses are the lifeblood of our local communities and during these tough times businesses need every boost they can get."

The council will shortly begin installing ticket machines and signs on Fulham Road, but motorists are urged not to park in the new pay-and-display bays before December 14, or they may be issued with a parking ticket.
