British Heart Foundation Store Set to Close This Month

Second to depart from North End Road this summer

The British Heart Foundation shop will shut by the end of the month

August 17, 2026

The British Heart Foundation charity shop in North End Road has announced it is closing its doors on 29 August.

It is the second charity shop in Fulham’s main shopping street to shut down this summer, following the departure of the nearby Cancer Research store, and is one of 150 out of a total of 640 proposed  for closure by the British Heart Foundation by March 2028.

The double blow comes as charity shops, which have become major features of Britain’s high streets in recent years, are facing pressures including soaring rental, wage and energy costs and competition from online retailers.

The Charity Retail Association says, “These are tough times for charity retail. Some of our members are saying that this is the worst time for trading they have ever encountered, and others are being clear that it is unlikely that shop estates will come out of this 100% unscathed.

“There appears to be a perfect storm at the moment, with income being relatively flat, and cost pressures being almost unprecedented. These two factors are combining to hit profitability in a way that most charity retailers have rarely seen before.”

Announcing its closure plan, the British Heart Foundation’s Chief Executive, Dr Charmaine Griffiths, said, “Like most retailers, we are facing an exceptionally challenging trading environment. Cardiovascular disease remains one of the UK’s biggest killers and our priority is funding research to save lives.

"We must take the difficult step to close some of our shops to sustain retail’s important contribution to funding BHF’s groundbreaking research.”

She added, “ Our shops mean so much to our colleagues, brilliant volunteers and communities across the UK.  They are places where people come together to donate, shop and volunteer, helping to make a real difference to lives affected by cardiovascular disease.

“We know this will be a difficult time for our dedicated colleagues and volunteers in affected stores and emphasise our deep appreciation and gratitude for all they have done for BHF and the communities they serve.”

The shop's premises, at 338 North End Road, are already available to let,  as is the former Cancer Research store at number 350.

Tenants are sought for the former Cancer Research store

These closures mean that North End Road now has six remaining charity shops.  While disability charity Scope has also announced plans to close the majority of its stores across the country, its branch at 421  North End Road remains open for business.
