Fulham Camerata Present Music by Two Great English Composers

In concert at Holy Cross RC Church in Parsons Green on Saturday

Fulham Camerata, a locally based amateur chamber choir, are presenting music by two great English composers at Holy Cross Church in Parsons Green on Saturday 16 November.

The evening will open with eight of Purcell’s anthems, both sacred and secular, including They That Go Down to the Sea in Ships, a challenging work of vocal complexity written to mark the fortunate escape of King Charles ll from a shipwreck.

It is followed by the melodic contemporary Requiem in seven movements by John Rutter – one of the most acclaimed living composers.

Written in Latin and English, it includes Rutter’s interpretation of The Lord is my Shepherd, written in 1976.

Once again, the 35-voice choir’s musical director Harry Castle – who teaches music at Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in Holland Park – will be the conductor.

Judit Schoblocher from Fulham Camerata said: “The works are being performed with three guest instrumentalists in addition to our gifted new keyboard accompanist, Will Fielding.”

An organ scholar at Hampton Court’s Chapel Royal, Will Fielding commented: “The choir has a great dynamic, and the results achieved are wonderful.”

Tickets are priced £15 (students £10, Uunder 16s free). Early bird admission, in advance, is £13.50 from Fulham Camerata's websiteTicket Tailor or you  can pay the full price on the door.

Fulham Camerata members span all age groups, various nationalities and are drawn from diverse professional and ethnic backgrounds.  The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 – 9.30pm at Holy Cross Church,

The choir say they are always keen to meet new singers. All levels are welcome, although they warn that the repertoire can be challenging.

To those considering joining, they say: " Main Choir singers do not need to audition. If you are interested in joining, simply email or phone to arrange to come along to a rehearsal with no commitment, and judge for yourself if Fulham Camerata is right for you. Ability to read music is not an absolute must; we provide learning tools to help you practise the pieces in your own time. Attendance at all rehearsals is expected.

" To enter the Ensemble there is an audition with our music director and chair of the committee. We also offer annual choral scholarships, typically to young professionals still at music college or who have recently graduated.

" Membership fees are £65 per term, or £35 for students and under-25s. Members further purchase music scores, which are provided, and a pair of reduced-price concert tickets."
