Labour's Helen Rowbottom is Fulham Broadway's New Councillor


Holding the seat with 44% of the vote , while LibDems surge to 30.4%

Labour candidate Helen Rowbottom has been elected as the new councillor in Fulham Broadway ward,  following a by-election held yesterday, Thursday 19 September.

Helen, who is is a project manager at the Healthy London Partnership, received 1,097 votes, while Lib Dem Jessie Venegas was second with 755 votes. Conservative candidate Aliya Afzal Khan was third with 628 votes.

The turnout was 31.7% and the result was announced at 11.45pm last night, after the polls closed at 10pm.

According to Britain Elects Labour held this seat with 44.2%, a loss of 11.6%, while the Lib Dems represented by Jessie Venegas surged by 21.8% to 30.4% and Conservatives fell to 25.3%, a loss of 10.2% for their candidate Aliya Afzal Khan. The party represented the seat until 2014

Helen Rowbottom worked for Hammersmith & Fulham Council as Policy and Strategy Officer between 2015 and 2017. During that time she served as H&F’s commissioner for Healthwatch Central West London and was awarded the staff prize for collaborative working for end-to-end project management of a hackathon tackling childhood obesity.

From June 2017 till December 2018 she worked for the National Housing Federation at Policy Officer and Health Lead and in January this year, she joined the NHS Healthy London Partnership's Urgent and Emergency Care team to support London's NHS Trusts.

The by-election was held following the resignation of Cllr Alan De'Ath who had taken a politically restricted job.

The other two seats in Fulham Broadway ward, which has a population of about 11,700, are held by Labour councillors Sharon Holder and Ben Coleman, the cabinet member for health and adult social care.
