Major Changes Planned for Borough's Bus Services

Route 11 service from Fulham Broadway to be replaced by new route 311

Bus routes serving Fulham are facing drastic changes as part of one of the biggest reorganisations of the service ever undertaken.

Transport for London is planning significant cuts across the capital in a plan that was first revealed on the 853 London blog. 

The blog's author Darren Chamberlain has been told by TfL that these plans are still at an early stage and will need to be discussed in more detail with local boroughs.

However, a six week long consultation is due to begin next month.

In Fulham route 11 would no longer run from from Fulham Broadway, but would only serve Victoria to Liverpool Street. A new service, route 311 would be introduced to run between Fulham Broadway and Oxford Circus. via Victoria and Mayfair to retain links broken by cutbacks on routes 11, 19 and 22, which would no longer serve Oxford Circus and would instead terminate at Piccadilly Circus.

Hammersmith, meanwhile could be among the areas most affected by the changes, with plans to axe route 10, which currently runs from Hammersmith Broadway to Kings Cross, and merge it with route 23, running to Marble Arch.

In addition, bus route 9, from Hammersmith to Aldwych would be rerouted from Pall Mall to Piccadilly.

Further north in Shepherd's Bush, the 94 route from Acton Green to Marble Arch, which runs along Goldhawk Road and around Shepherd's Bush Green is facing what is described as a 'medium cut'.

The service, which was already reduced in frequency in April, would only run as far as Piccadilly Circus, both on the day and night services.

Director of public transport service planning Geoff Hobbs told the blog: "Buses have a crucial role to play in boosting the number of people walking, cycling and using public transport.

"As set out in the Mayor’s Transport Strategy, we’re currently looking at how we can adjust and reorganise the bus network to ensure it reflects a rapidly changing London, including planning for year-on-year increases in bus kilometres in outer London. We need to modernise and simplify the network and ensure that bus capacity is in the right places at the right times.

"We’re currently working closely with London’s boroughs on a potential set of proposals and they are helping shape our plans. These changes will also be subject to full public consultation before they’re put in place so we can hear from customers."
