H&F Council Asks TfL to Rethink Changes to 424 Bus Route

New route would miss out vital stops for elderly residents in Sands End

Hammersmith & Fulham Council says it is writing to Transport for London calling for a rethink on plans to alter the 424 bus service in Fulham.

TfL has proposed changes which will result in the route, which currently runs from Craven Cottage through to Putney High Street, terminating instead in Wandsworth and missing out several important stops which are vital to Sands End residents, particularly the elderly and disabled.

" Many residents, including those in sheltered accommodation complexes on the route, have been in touch with us expressing their dismay at these proposals," says Cllr Lisa Homan, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing.

"For many, this route is the only way they can access shops, GP surgeries and other essential services that they rely on and which allow them independence. So, we are writing to TfL asking them to commit to a meeting with our Sheltered Housing Forum as soon as possible to give residents a chance to put their case forward."

The 424 is the only bus route that directly serves Sands End. Under the new proposals, the service will no longer stop at Bagleys Lane, Pearscroft Road, Broughton Road and Byam Street.

Many Sands End residents use the service to access Sainsbury's supermarket on Townmead Road as well as Putney High Street.

TfL is currently reviewing the route and says no changes have yet been confirmed.
