New exhibition at Fulham Palace Begins this Weekend

A new free exhibition called Bishops Park: Fulham’s Victorian Oasis opens at Fulham Palace on Saturday, November 19, celebrating one of our best loved open spaces.

Opened in 1893, Bishops Park was formed from the ‘bishops meadows’ along the river side, and in the days when locals were unable to take extravagant holidays, the beach area - known as Margate Sands - was a popular spot for adults and children alike. 

Telling the story of the park, including paintings and engravings of Fulham from before the park opened, this exhibition celebrates the history and restoration of this much-loved local park.

The exhibition, which will be open from Saturday to Wednesday from 1pm till 4pm, from November 19 until December 19, then opening again from January 2 till the end of the month.

The exhibition opens as the restoration of Bishops Park continues to take shape, with turf laid in the landscaped areas which will surround the ornamental lake, restoration of the terracotta perimeter walls continuing and preparations being made to create the long awaited beach beside the lake.
