Police investigating a fatal collision in West Kensington on Saturday have arrested a 21 year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene.

The man was arrested on Tuesday, 7 March after he attended a south London police station. He has since been bailed to a date in mid March.

Detectives from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating and continue to appeal for information and witnesses.

Police say they were called by the London Ambulance Service at 9.27pm on Saturday, 4 March to reports that a silver car had hit an elderly pedestrian on Hammersmith Road at the junction with Edith Road, W14.

The driver failed to stop at the scene.

The male pedestrian, aged 81, was taken to a central London hospital where he died at 1.15am on Sunday, 5 March. Police say next of kin have been informed.

Detectives from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating.

Officers have now located the car which is a silver BMW 5-series and not a Mercedes as previously thought. The car was found on Stanwick Road.

Officers would like to speak with anyone who saw the collision, or who saw the car leave the scene. They are also particularly keen to speak with anyone who saw the car being abandoned.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit's witness appeal line on 020 8543 5157 or via 101.
