Unique Pedestrian Bridge Opens in Fulham's Chelsea Creek


Bridge across canal has 336 lit-up acrylic rods as balustrades

It is the first of its kind in the UK to use up-lit acrylic rods as balustrades.

There are 336 acrylic rods in total and and a single LED up-light under each acrylic rod to light the balustrades.

So while the balustrades shine in the sunlight, they come into their own after the sun goes down.

The bridge, commissioned by Chelsea Creek developer St George and designed by architects Broadway Malyan, is described as a sculptural element, enriching residents' experience and creating desirable views across the canal.

It also extends the path through the development offering local residents a quieter alternative route to and from Imperial Wharf Station than walking along the busy Imperial Road.

St George says the bridge is 3m wide and 23.5m in length and consists of curved steel beams, curved lightweight acrylic rod balustrades, timber decking and handrails, with feature lighting to the bridge and below, allowing the lights to be reflected in the water below.
