Disappointment as Arctic expedition is called off
Fulham adventurer Stephen Davies' hopes of walking to the North Pole have been dashed.
Stephen, 34 joined 11 team mates making the Arctic Expedition in order to raise money for the charity Epilepsy Action, because his sister suffers from the condition.
And though the team set off from Resolute Bay in Canada with high hopes of completing the 30 day unsupported walk - meaning they would be responsible for carrying their own supplies - tough conditions on the ice and temperatures as low as -40 soon took their toll.
On the sixth day one member of the team had to be taken off the ice suffering from frostbite and on the eighth day, the expedition was called off after team leader Richard Bull developed pneumonia.
The team's daily blog recorded: " Obviously due to the severe nature of Richard's condition, it was not possible for the expedition to continue. This is a great disappointment to Richard personally and to the remainder of the team after years of planning and preparation."
The team are now back home in the UK, and hatching plans for a another Arctic attempt. And in the meantime, Stephen, who had raised almost £7,000 for Epilepsy Action before setting off on the expedition, has uploaded his amazing pictures of life below zero on flickr
