Fulham Camerata Appoints New Director of Music

And prepares for first concert in March under his leadership

Fulham Camerata has appointed a new director of music, and is busy rehearsing for its first concert under his leadership.

The amateur chamber choir based  has recently named James Day as their new director of music and he has put together an uplifting programme for his inaugural concert centred on the key choruses from Vaughan Williams’s opera The Pilgrim’s Progress.

The programme includes the spirituals from Tippett’s A Child of Our Time and Tye’s compelling Mass for the Western Wind.

Fulham Camerata is is currently experiencing a surge in membership, growing from 30 to 40 members. Founded in 2007, the choir was led for several years by Christopher Wray and does not require an audition.

Newcomers are invited to contact the choir and arrange to come along to a rehearsal to judge if the camerata is right for them.

J ames graduated from Durham University in 2013, and he is in the latter stages of the post-graduate choral conducting course at the Royal Academy of Music. Besides Fulham Camerata, he is musical director of Take Note Peterborough, director of choral music at the Foundling Museum, musical director of the Church Street Community Voices and director of music at St Andrew’s Totteridge.

Fulham Camerata performs on Saturday, March 14, at Holy Cross Church in Bettridge Road, Fulham. The concert starts at 7.30pm.
